Biography
Kjell Nupen was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Norway and at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf, Germany. Nupen is without a doubt the most acclaimed of the Scandinavian painters featured at the Touch. Norwegian museums and HM the Queen of Sweden are very big fans of this dynamic artist.
Kjell Nupen's trademarks are his use of Matisse like blue; his three current favourite motifs include the vase, the overpainted postcard, and birds across the water. He uses his hands, spatulas and brushes in his works. Often his motifs can be seen in numerous varieties, one more spectacular and striking than the other.
One can almost say that Nupen works from a horizontal perspective, aiming to find the depth in his work rather than the width.
